Enjoy this free guide with all the information you could need to plan a dream destination wedding on St. George Island!

How to Get Married on St. George Island

First things first—what do you actually need to get married on St. George Island? It’s actually fairly straightforward.

You will need to get your marriage license; you can do that at the Franklin County Court. Expect to spend around $90 for the license. In order to get a license, both parties will need to be present with a valid photo ID and social security numbers. If either party has been previously married, they will also need to provide the date and reason the previous marriage ended. Each person applying for the license must also read the “Family Law Handbook”; this is required by law. Licenses are issued immediately. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply without the consent of a legal guardian.

Tip: If you have a specific question about your marriage license, check out the Franklin County website.

Waterfront & Beach

Of course, you can’t beat a true beach wedding. Luckily for you, St. George does indeed allow beach weddings! Additionally, there are no fees to use the island’s public beaches. The city simply asks for parties to be mindful of other beachgoers and to consider the time of year/time of day you host the wedding to accommodate other visitors.

There are two different areas to consider for your St. George Island beach wedding:

  • St. George Island Public Beach—the pavilions at the St. George Lighthouse Park (located on the center of the island) and public access points are available on a first-come basis
  • St. George Island State Park—covered pavilions can be reserved, public beach access points are on a first-come basis (850) 927-2111

The Riverfront Park and Lafayette Park in nearby Apalachicola also offer great outdoor ceremony options for couples seeking waterfront views without the hassle of sand.

After you’ve booked your dream beach wedding venue, you’ll want to secure a professional photographer to capture your special day. Wedding Officiants

A wedding is a special and incredibly personal event. Many couples, especially those visiting from out of town and planning a destination wedding, prefer to source their own wedding officiant from within their own family or friend group. After all, becoming a wedding officiant is actually pretty easy! However, if you’re in a pinch or you’d prefer to keep it simple with a professional service, we can help.

If you opt for a church wedding, the religious official at the place of worship will serve as your officiant. And even if you choose a non-church ceremony venue, you can often still choose to have a religious figure travel to your ceremony to officiate the ceremony.

If you opt for a non-religious venue or would prefer a non-religious officiant, we’ve got a few local recommendations:

Each of these local wedding officiants is sure to add a unique and special flare to your wedding ceremony.

Wedding Bands & DJs

Whether you’re #TeamDJ or #TeamBand, there’s one thing that applies to every event—It’s not a wedding without entertainment.

Before you fall in love with a specific band or DJ, be sure to check with your venue on any specific entertainment limitations or requirements.

Once you have approval, it’s time to think about the experience you want to provide.

Live bands are often a bit more expensive than DJs, especially since they will likely have to travel from a larger city. Check out these recommendations on The Knot to start narrowing down the list:

If a DJ set-up is more your style, you’ll have a little easier time sourcing a local entertainer—though you’ll have a wider selection in neighboring cities.

Locally owned and operated out of Panama City Beach, Pro Sound Entertainment offers over a decade of experience with weddings and special events. DJ Vladi is another Panama Beach-based entertainer that has a great reputation along the Florida Panhandle. Panama City is only an hour and a half from St. George, so travel expenses will be less than other DJs.

Outside of Panama City Beach, Pensacola, Destin, and Tallahassee are your best bet to find a wedding DJ.
