There are currently 152 sea turtle nests marked on the beach - the highest number since the recording began in 1998. Threatened loggerhead sea turtles nest on St. George Island from May 1 through October 31st.  Female sea turtles emerge on our beaches and deposit approximately 100 eggs in a nest cavity. Starting in July and for the next three months, the nests will hatch at night and baby turtles will scramble to the sea, guided by light reflected from Gulf waters. Florida beaches accounts for 1/3 of the world’s total population of loggerheads. View a copy of our turtle laws for the island.
